On paper, many businesses look fine.

Revenue is coming in.
Customers are being served.
Staff are busy.

But behind the scenes the business can feel heavier than it should.

Margins are tighter than expected.
Cashflow requires constant attention.
Growth has added complexity rather than clarity.
And the decisions ahead feel larger — and harder to reverse.

What many owners are feeling in that moment is decision pressure.

Not because they lack ideas or work ethic, but because the consequences of getting the next move wrong feel personal — for their staff, their customers, and their families.

This is the space in which I work.

I partner with owner-led businesses when instinct and hard work are no longer enough on their own — when the business needs clearer structure, stronger financial visibility, and more disciplined thinking before the next decisions are made.

The risk is rarely sudden failure.
More often it is drifting too long without addressing what really matters.

My role is to help bring clarity to current reality and restore confidence in the path forward.

How I work with business owners

My approach is practical, structured and grounded in real business experience.

I work alongside owners to:

• clarify what is really happening inside the business
• identify the decisions that matter most
• restore financial visibility and control
• strengthen the foundations that sustainable growth depends on

When the structure of a business improves, pressure reduces.

When the numbers become clearer, confidence returns.

Experience that shapes my work

My career spans environments where financial decisions carried real consequences.

Early in my career I worked within New Zealand Treasury, contributing to national budget strategy and analysing the financial performance of major public sector organisations. I later worked in corporate investment analysis, developing business cases and financial models to support large capital investment decisions.

Those roles built disciplined thinking around risk, accountability and long-term consequences.

Equally important has been nearly two decades inside small and medium-sized businesses, where I have experienced first-hand the realities of owner-led companies — balancing staff, customers, cashflow and operational pressure every day.

More recently I have worked in business recovery environments, including helping lead recovery efforts following the devastation of Cyclone Gabrielle in 2023.  Working through the impacts of Cyclone Gabrielle strengthened my belief that clear thinking, disciplined decision-making and steady progress matter most when circumstances feel uncertain.

Those experiences reinforced a simple truth:

Most business stress is not about ambition.
It is about uncertainty.

Owners are rarely afraid of hard work.
They are concerned about making the wrong call at the wrong time.

Outside the business world

Outside of business I am passionate about mountain biking and was fortunate to win the 2017 World Masters Cross Country Mountain Bike Championship and in 2020 I founded a coaching business introducing riders of all ages to mountain biking in a safe and supportive environment.

The discipline, resilience and steady progress required in endurance sport mirror many of the same qualities required to build a strong and sustainable business.

A simple belief

Running a business should not feel like something you carry alone.

With the right structure, clarity and support, business owners can move forward with greater confidence — and build businesses that work for their lives, not the other way around.
